What To Expect After A Massage

Massage is often considered to be an important part of integrative and complementary medicine and is increasingly being offered along with standard medical treatments for a wide range of medical conditions. It has been found to be beneficial in managing anxiety, headaches, soft tissue strains, and joint pain, among other health issues. It is also well-known to be an effective way to decompress, and there is a really good reason for that; this practice helps to stimulate your lymphatic system and gets your blood flowing. 

After your session, you may feel extra relaxed, and perhaps even just a bit intoxicated, and that’s because your body will be flushing out all the toxins and releasing those endorphins – those hormones that make us feel amazing. 

You may also feel less muscle tension (which is a good thing!), and maybe even a little bit sore. This soreness is caused by the manual movements of the muscle tissue your practitioner will be using. We offer several different versions of massage here at Urban Oasis Day Spa, and here’s what to expect after a massage:

 

Deep Massage

    • This technique uses slow and forceful strokes that target the deeper layers of muscle and connective tissue and is most commonly used to help heal damages to muscle from injuries. 

Swedish Massage

    • A gentle form of massage that uses long strokes and kneading, as well as deep circular movements, vibration, and tapping to help energize and relax the recipient. 

Sports Massage

    • Similar to Swedish Massage, this massage is geared towards people that are involved in sports-related activities and has been formulated to help prevent or treat injuries. 

 

A massage session can last anywhere from 10 to 90 minutes, and this depends on the type of massage you decide on. No matter which one you choose, you can expect to feel calm and relaxed during, and after, your massage. 

Once your session concludes you will want to be sure to drink plenty of water to aid in the flushing away of toxins, and we also recommend that you rest, have a light meal, relax your mind and body, and enjoy the rest of your day following your massage.
