Acupuncture Therapy At Urban Oasis
Acupuncture is an ancient and respected healing method that many Westerners don’t know much about. You may have a friend or co-worker who has had an acupuncture treatment and perhaps their description of the practice has left you a bit curious about it. Today we would like to share some information that we hope will satisfy that curiosity; you may even decide to schedule a session with our resident acupuncture practitioner, Rhonda Cook!
What Is Acupuncture?
Acupuncture medicine has been around for about 5,000 years, and it was first practiced in China. An ancient text dating back to about 100 B.C. included the mention of the anatomical locations of acupuncture points on the body that are still used today.
Some of the objects used in acupuncture practice in the past weren’t made from the same materials as they are today; in ancient China gold, silver, bone, and bamboo were among some of the materials in use at that time. Our modern needles are made from disposable stainless steel, which makes the procedure much safer, as well as pain-free.
How Does Acupuncture Therapy Work?
Acupuncture therapy is known to be effective in the treatment of pain, insomnia, depression, anxiety, and addictions, as well as in digestive and other internal disorders. Gynecological issues, headaches, respiratory problems, and allergies are also responsive to this practice.
During, and after, the treatment you may experience a calming of your mind and a deep relaxation that may even allow you to nap! Many people see an immediate improvement in their condition after treatment while others may see a difference within a few days or so.
Acupuncture is a therapy that induces self-healing and balancing within the body which often will improve other discomforts that may not have been directly addressed in the treatment itself. The very best results will be achieved through frequent and consistent treatments at the beginning and then reducing the frequency as improvement is achieved.
